LIVE PASSPORT: VALENTINE'S DAY EVENTS AND WEEKEND GETAWAYS

Monday 1st February 2016

We've collated some of our favourite Valentine’s Day events and weekend breaks across the world; from the weird through to the wonderful…

LONDON: THE VIEW FROM THE SHARD

Shard (2)

If you’re looking to keep it local, why not sit 244m above ground level at The View from the Shard, enjoying the glittering lights of London after dark? It was awarded the title of ‘The Most Romantic View’ by Mills & Boon in 2015, plus the venue is open two hours later than usual on 13th and 14th February, with the champagne bar serving from 11am until close. Visit The View from The Shard website to book, and if you’re planning on proposing, they can organise bespoke elements to enhance your proposal through their Marriage Proposal Concierge Service!

LOS ANGELES: SEX AND THE CITY ZOO

We couldn’t resist this one! LA Zoo’s annual adults-only wildlife fundraiser, Sex and the City Zoo, offers the opportunity for guests to see how romance plays out in the animal kingdom. Included in the evening is an informative guest lecture on some of the most unusual and fascinating mating rituals, animal walk-abouts allowing close-up views and chats with the keepers, and an optional three course dinner to round off the evening. Light-hearted, fun and informative!

PRAGUE: A WEEKEND BREAK

Music recitals in candlelit churches, firelit restaurants serving huge plates of comfort food and red wine, beautiful views over the Vltava River on the Charles Bridge… What’s not to love about Prague? With its 1,000-year history, the city and its streets are waiting to be explored. The Telegraph Travel have nailed the ideal romantic day, with suggestions of where to go, what to do and where to stay.

PARIS: BURLESQUE AT THE NOUVELLE SEINE

It feels wrong to write about Valentine’s Day and not mention Paris. If you’ve never seen a burlesque show, what better excuse than Valentine’s Day than to take a trip to the Nouvelle Seine for an evening of entertainment and light comedy. And where better to do this than Paris? For something a little different, watch glamorous stars flaunting glitzy red lipstick, copious feathers and glittering sequined dresses for just €19.

NEW YORK: DINNERS IN THE DARK

This one caught our eye! Have you ever eaten blindfolded before? Camaje are taking diners on an unforgettable journey with their Dinners in the Dark. Guests don blindfolds and performance artists pose as servers to create an unusual, choreographed experience where senses are awakened.
