SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST 2016
Last year, Occasions were chosen by Alex and Poppy to cater for their August wedding at Queen’s House, and they have kindly allowed us to share their special day with you.
On arrival into the house, guests were greeted with Prosecco, Aperol Spritz and delicious canapés, including Teriyaki beef skewers with sesame crust and wasabi mayonnaise, as well as mixed vegetable spring rolls with enoki mushrooms and bamboo shoots in light pastry with chilli and lime syrup.
Guests were then called through to dinner in the Great Hall, served after the wedding speeches. Following a delicious tasting, Alex and Poppy selected our salmon and chervil mousse starter, encased in smoked salmon, salad fine and blini with a lemon dressing. The vegetarian option was one of our favourites – sweet corn croquettes with baby heritage radishes, yellow pepper purée, mustard seed caviar and tarragon dressing.
For the main, Alex and Poppy opted for a slow cooked shoulder of Cornish lamb with dauphinoise potato, heritage baby carrots, pickled sprouting broccoli and lamb jus. A trio of desserts then rounded off a beautiful dinner, featuring baked vanilla cheesecake with an almond cigar, roasted peach and salted butter shortbread; Amalfi lemon cheesecake parfait with lemon chocolate, citrus curd and thyme syrup; and ‘Snickers’ – a salted caramel peanut butter slice with a cocoa nib tuile and frosted nuts.
We caught up with the couple to see why they chose Occasions by Moving Venue and to find out a little more about their special day...
Why did you choose Queen's House?
Greenwich is a very special place for us. We’ve lived there together for four years, and have spent many a lazy afternoon in the Park by Queen’s House. It’s such a beautiful setting, and looks over to Canary Wharf which is where we were working when we first met!
Why did you decide on Moving Venue as your wedding caterer?
We had the most wonderful experience during our tasting with Moving Venue. We were a bit nervous about what to expect, but the staff put us totally at ease and the food and drinks were completely delicious. We felt like royalty, and decided that if that’s how they approached the tastings then we were in good hands for the big day! And it really helped that they were excellent value for money. That was key.
Why did you select your particular menu?
We wanted some Russian elements to the menu, which is why we started with smoked salmon and blini. The main was a re-creation of a delicious meal we’d had in the past, and we chose the trio of desserts because we’re greedy!
What was the highlight of the day?
We loved the moment we first entered Queen’s House; the jazz band was playing, the décor was beautifully laid out, the drinks were flowing and the canapés were circulating. We couldn’t believe it was our wedding!
